I'm a programmer, not a webmaster or graphics designer. Consequently, this site will stay pretty much devoid of intensive graphics layouts and "eye candy". A few accent graphics and a predilection for light textured backgrounds or unobtrusively decontrasted background graphics is all you're going to get out of me.

There is javascript enhancement, but the intent is that the javascript is generally "value-added" function, and you can get along without it. Some particular content, such as the stock market stuff, may require it. What you will be missing if you do not have javascript is mostly tooltips, and some popup dialogs which will display as new pages instead, or simply be non-functional if the popup is simply added information, and not all that vital.

I try to avoid "mystery meat" navigation. Links should generally be text, and look like links. I do have a few small clickable graphics to save space in some places, such as those in the navigation bar, which should be fairly obvious as clickable icons. And they are tool tipped. Also, "powered by" buttons, which have become standard.

I will use image maps, sound, video clips, flash, quicktime, java applets, etc. only if I wind up with some content that calls for it, not gratuitously.

Since this site isn't a commercial service, I'm not working on it in a staging area then deploying as one would in such an environment. I'm working directly on the site, and something might get temporarily broken if I'm messing with it.
